BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Indiana University’s Center for Learning Analytics and Student Success (CLASS) will host an inaugural learning analytics summit on April 11-13, 2018. The Framing the Future of Learning Analytics and Student Success Summit will take place at the Indiana Memorial Union, located in the heart of the IU Bloomington campus.
The three-day summit will bring together faculty, staff and administrators who are interested in using learning analytics in scholarly research about teaching, learning and student success. Graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in joining the discussion are also invited to register. Through presentations, poster sessions and working sessions, participants will be provided time to address the opportunities, issues and concerns related to using learning analytics to help students remain in college, choose an appropriate major and career path and graduate in a timely manner.
“The summit will take a hands-on approach,” said director of the Center for Learning Analytics and Student Success George Rehrey. “Participants will leave with actionable outcomes to pursue when they return to their own institutions.”
Keynote speakers are Dennis Groth, vice provost for undergraduate education at IU Bloomington; Gregory Heileman, associate provost for student & academic life and chief student affairs officer at the University of Kentucky; and Marco Molinaro, the assistant vice Provost for educational effectiveness at University of California, Davis.
The summit is an outcome of IU Bloomington’s Learning Analytics Fellows Program and the work of the Bloomington Assessment and Research office. As such, it is specifically aimed at empowering faculty to conduct actionable scholarly research through the systematic collection, exploration, and analysis of data describing students, their observable activities and outcomes.
There is no fee to attend the summit, but space is limited. Registration and more information can be found at https://lasummit.indiana.edu/. For questions, please contact George Rehrey at classiub@indiana.edu.
The Learning Analytics Summit is sponsored by the IU Office of the Bicentennial. Indiana University was founded on January 20, 1820, making it one of the oldest public universities in the nation. To celebrate its Bicentennial, IU has developed a multi-year, multi-campus program that will recognize and chronicle IU history, showcase the university’s significant contributions to the world, and set a course for the next century.
A part of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Center for Learning Analytics and Student Success advances the widespread use of big data and student learning analytics, empowering faculty to conduct actionable scholarly research through the systematic collection, exploration, and analysis of data describing students, their observable activities, and outcomes.
