Starting college is exciting—but it can also feel a little overwhelming. That’s why IU Bloomington offers FYS-F100: First-Year Seminar, a 1-credit course in the first eight weeks of the fall semester designed to help you start strong, stay strong, and succeed in your first semester and beyond.

- Learn how to manage your time and navigate resources across campus
- Reflect on your goals and explore your academic identity
You'll also develop skills that will support your academic, personal, and professional success at IU and beyond:
Critical thinking & reflection
- Learn to assess ideas, arguments, and media with confidence and curiosity
- Practice reflection as a powerful, lifelong learning tool
Being part of the IU community
- Understand what it means to be a responsible, engaged member of a community
- Explore your role as a student in the IU community
- Identify and use IU resources that support your academic, personal, and career goals
*Small class sizes and faculty-student interactions are high-impact practices that have been shown to promote student success and persistence (Kuh & O’Donnell, 2013).
